Dplus KIA are the Esports World Cup 2026 League of Legends champions, and they did it the hard way: sweeping France’s own Karmine Corp 3-0 in front of a Paris crowd that spent the whole series booing them.
Silencing the Blue Wall
Karmine Corp’s home support — the famous “Blue Wall” — made this the loudest final of the event, and it didn’t matter. Dplus KIA jungler Choi “Lucid” Yong-hyeok put it flatly afterwards: “it didn’t affect me.” The Korean side controlled the series from the first game and turned Game 3 into a statement, banking a 10,000-gold lead within 24 minutes before marching down the Nexus.
The bracket run makes the sweep more impressive, not less. Neither finalist was fancied coming in — both had shaky MSI 2026 records — and between them they eliminated the tournament favorites: T1, Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, and Bilibili Gaming all went home before the final.
Smash’s birthday MVP
Bot laner Shin “Smash” Geum-jae turned the grand final into a personal highlight reel: an 8.1 KDA, 69.8% kill participation, 836 damage per minute, and 28.4% of Dplus KIA’s total damage — enough for the series MVP award, handed to him on his actual birthday.
Why it matters
This is the third EWC 2026 title to land in the books after 100 Thieves took Valorant and PARIVISION took Dota 2 — and it’s the clearest underdog-story of the three: a team that stumbled through MSI walking through the deepest field in LoL esports without dropping a single final game. The Esports World Cup runs through August 23, with more finals still to come.
