gamescom has run out of room. Ahead of the August 26–30 show in Cologne, organisers have confirmed that all available exhibition space is booked out — something that has never happened in the event’s history.

Who’s actually showing up

The headline names are the ones you’d expect for a show this size: Nintendo, Xbox, Ubisoft, CD Projekt Red, Capcom, Krafton, Bandai Namco, Team17, and Astragon, with media partners including Webedia and Rocket Beans.

The more telling part is the second wave — Konami, Tencent Games, Level Infinite, Embark Studios, NC, Giants, and aerosoft were added after the initial lineup, which is what pushed the floor to capacity. Tencent and Level Infinite in particular reflect how much of the show’s growth is coming from publishers that historically leaned on their own regional events.

Opening Night Live, August 25

The showcase runs the evening before the show floor opens. Geoff Keighley hosts again, joined by Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere, for a two-hour block of reveals streamed free on YouTube, Twitch, and Steam.

Two things are already confirmed for it: Metro 2039, 4A Games’ next entry ahead of its February 2027 release, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, which will get its first proper showing there. More titles are being announced on a rolling basis.

Why it matters

E3 is gone, and the question since has been whether anything actually replaced it or whether the industry just scattered into publisher-run streams. A gamescom that sells out its entire floor — and pulls in publishers that used to skip it — is a fairly direct answer: the physical trade show didn’t die, it consolidated into one.

Practically, it also means the next month is the busiest stretch of the gaming calendar. Opening Night Live on August 25 is where most of the autumn’s announcements will land, and it’s free to watch on three platforms. Worth putting on the calendar.
