Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced launches July 9, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). It’s a ground-up remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, rebuilt on the latest version of the Anvil Engine with zero code carried over from the original.

New story content, minus the modern-day office scenes

Building on the original’s story, Resynced adds new content around fan-favorite characters like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. The original’s modern-day sections set in Abstergo Entertainment’s offices are gone, replaced with new sequences that dig further into Edward’s memories instead.

Reworked combat, stealth, and one big quality-of-life fix

Movement is smoother with expanded parkour options, stealth adds crouching and an Observe mode, and combat is deeper — takedown-focused, with adaptive enemies and environmental interactions. The single biggest quality-of-life change: tailing and eavesdropping missions no longer instantly fail the moment you lose the target, addressing one of the original’s most-criticized mechanics. Sea shanties return, with 10 new songs added, and photo mode is confirmed.

Graphics and PS5 Pro enhancements

Ray-traced lighting, micropolygon rendering, a new dynamic weather system, and environmental destruction are all in, alongside a modernized water system with tessellation, volumetric foam, and dynamic bubbles that react to wind, weather, and ship movement. Open-world loading screens between major cities are gone entirely.

On PS5 Pro specifically: all three graphics modes (60fps Performance, 30fps Fidelity, 40fps Balanced) get PSSR upscaling to 2160p, extended ray tracing across all three modes (base PS5’s Performance mode only gets “standard” ray tracing), and strand-based hair for Edward in every mode — with nearby crowds also getting strand simulation in Fidelity mode.

Editions and pricing

Standard Edition is $59.99, Deluxe Edition is $69.99, and the Collector’s Edition includes Edward’s leather logbook, a wearable metal Assassin insignia brooch, an exclusive SteelBook, a cloth world map, and a sea shanty music sheet.

Why it matters

This isn’t a lazy remaster — a full engine rebuild, real story additions, and a direct fix to one of the original’s most-hated mechanics make this one of the more substantial remakes of the year, especially for anyone who bounced off the original’s tailing missions a decade ago.
