The short version
- 3.5 million copies sold in the first 14 days, per Ubisoft’s own Q1 FY2027 sales report
- That already exceeds Ubisoft’s full first-year sales projection for the game
- The first Assassin’s Creed title to cross 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, with the US and China driving the surge
- Confirmed as the highest-rated Assassin’s Creed game since the original 2013 Black Flag
- CEO Yves Guillemot pointed to the launch as validation of Ubisoft’s restructuring push toward smaller, higher-quality projects
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced didn’t just review well when it launched on July 9 — it’s selling well past what Ubisoft expected. The remake moved 3.5 million copies in its first 14 days, enough to blow past the publisher’s entire first-year sales target in about a fortieth of the time.
From well-reviewed to Ubisoft’s biggest bet paying off
We covered the critical reception when Resynced launched — an 84 on Metacritic and an 87 on OpenCritic, driven by praise for naval combat, the Caribbean open world, and the from-scratch Anvil Engine rebuild. The sales numbers now back that reception up in a way review scores alone can’t: Resynced became the first Assassin’s Creed game ever to break 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, and Ubisoft’s own reporting confirms it as the highest-rated entry in the franchise since the original 2013 release.

Because the July 9 launch fell right at the start of Q2, the actual revenue from these sales will show up in Ubisoft’s next earnings report rather than the Q1 numbers already released — but the unit sales figure itself is confirmed now, not an estimate. CEO Yves Guillemot framed the launch as proof the strategy is working, saying it “illustrates the enduring appeal of the Assassin’s Creed brand” and Ubisoft’s “commitment to delivering very high-quality experiences.”
Why it matters
Ubisoft has leaned hard on remakes and revivals of its own back catalog as a lower-risk alternative to expensive new IP, and this is the clearest evidence yet that the bet is paying off — a rebuilt 2013 game outselling its own publisher’s yearly projection in two weeks, while also becoming the best-reviewed Assassin’s Creed in over a decade. Expect Ubisoft to lean further into this playbook for whichever catalog title gets the remake treatment next.
